Effects of CO2 Enrichment on Net Photosynthesis in Capsicum annuum L .

Abstract
This study was to explore the effects of CO©ü enrichment on photosynthesis of Capsicum annuum L. under various light and temperature conditions. Effects of increasing temperature on respiration of the plant were also examined. The results are as follows: 1. The light saturation point of ¢¥Komyong¢¥ and ¢¥Taemyong¢¥ was 60 Klux, and that of ¢¥Tabok¢¥ was 80 Klux. Under light condition of 60 Klux, ¢¥Tabok¢¥ showed the highest photosynthetic rate, followed by ¢¥Komyong¢¥. 2. Photosynthetic rate for three cultivars was the highest at 25¡É. Respiration rate at 30¡É was the highest for ¢¥Tabok¢¥ , followed by ¢¥Komyong¢¥ and ¢¥Taemyong¢¥ in this order. 3. The effect of CO©ü enrichment on the photosynthetic rate was the highest for ¢¥Tabok¢¥ , followed by ¢¥Komyong¢¥ and ¢¥Taemyong¢¥ in this order. The effect was rapidly increased as the CO©ü concentration increased from 500 to 1,000 ppm, but there was no significant difference between 1,000 ppm and 1,500 ppm. 4. High C02 enrichment (1,000ppm or higher) improved photosynthetic rate of ¢¥Komyong¢¥ even at 15 C and 20 Klux (relatively low temperature and low light intensity). At 20¡É and 40 Klux, the photosynthetic rate of the cultivar treated by 1,000 ppm CO©ü was 2 times higher than that of the cultivar without any CO©ü treatment. The light saturation of the cultivar reached at 30¡É and 60 Klux. 5. The CO©ü treatment of 1,000 ppm is regarded as the most suitable for clutivation of the three cultivars.
